Cass Lake
Walleye Fishing Guide
Cass Lake is part of the Mississippi headwaters chain — 35,900 acres of mostly mid-depth water with a max of 40 feet. It's connected to Andrusia, Pike Bay, and Buck Lakes, giving you a chain of fishable water all from one launch. Reliable walleye and a strong muskie population define the fishery.

Lake Layout & Key Structure
Star Island sits dead-center, creating a big gradient of depth and weed cover. Mid-lake humps, soft-bottom basins, and good shoreline weed edges. The connecting channels concentrate fish.
Seasonal Walleye Tactics
Walleyes hit the rocky points and the connecting channels in 6–10 ft. Jig + minnow opener pattern works for weeks. Crappies pile into Pike Bay shallows.
Walleyes settle on the deeper weed edges (12–18 ft) and the mid-lake humps. Lindy rigs with leeches. Muskie cruise the cabbage flats — bucktails on point-to-point retrieves.
Walleyes follow ciscos shallow at night. Big shiners on jigs after sunset on rocky points. Muskies hit jumbo suckers on the deeper weed-rock transitions.
Solid walleye bite in 18–28 ft on the humps and break edges. Crappies suspend in basin holes 25–32 ft. Star Island produces consistently.
